Comments

We are over the moon about the office. It looks fantastic in our garden and will be great to use as an office. Just need to get some furniture to go in it now. The tiny desk we have at the moment will look a bit daft in there!
Thank you for all your support during the build and beforehand, and to all the builders etc who have been involved.

Summary

As with so many people, these clients needed to create an office for home working and using part of the garden seemed the perfect solution. Stepping away from the house can be a huge advantage psychologically as one can mentally separate from the tasks or family distractions facing them there to focus on other things. The other advantage of a garden office is minimal commute time (let's say 10 seconds) with leafy green views, not to mention the adaptability of your new studio space. You not only have an office but a stunning garden room, spare bedroom or teenage hangout.

Details

If your studio is no more than 2.5m high and less than 30msq of internal area, it can be built as close to your boundary as you wish and without planning permission. (There are a few exceptions to the rule but these are the key parameters). This studio was carefully positioned in the middle of the garden between the exiting shed and the house. Part of the fence was removed to enable our build team to position it tight up to the boundary, and reinstated on completion. The main façade is dominated by large sliding doors giving easy access, fabulous light and unhindered views of the garden. Purposefully positioned on the rear wall was a second bespoke window, 0.48m wide and 1.2m high, ensuring through breeze on hot days, and giving views and light from the opposite aspect of the garden. There is ample internal wall space for desks and storage with four double power sockets, six internal and two external LED down-lights. Our clients opted for under floor heating with touch screen thermostatic control and had wireless broadband (via power cable) installed. We wish Mr and Mrs Frankish many years of enjoyment from their bespoke garden studio.
