Summary

The Turners, a busy young family, wanted to achieve greater life style flexibility by installing a garden studio that would combine our two most popular studio functions - that of a home office and as a gym. They had visited our stand at the Grand Designs Show London Olympia 2015 and seeing our product first hand, decided to make the investment in their quality of life. One of their criteria was to achieve 2.25m of head room internally whilst remaining within permissible development, so as not to require planning.

Details

Three days ground work were required to clear the designated area of shrubs, remove an existing shed and level the ground. In order to achieve the head height desired we excavated the ground and counter sunk the floor. To prevent damp issues a French drain (formed from 4 inch perforated pipe runs covered with pea shingle) was installed around the perimeter of the studio draining into a soak away. A notable addition to this classic design was the inclusion of a 1200mm by 750mm skylight. This throws a fabulous amount of additional light into the room. The skylight is triple glazed with self-cleaning glass, so will not reduce the high thermal efficiency of the room. Across the front looking down the garden are 2.15m high French Doors with fixed panels either side all framed in anthracite grey uPVC. The flooring which comes with a 25 year residential warranty is a 10mm v groove wood effect laminate. Being SIPs construction and externally clad the studio requires very little energy to maintain a comfortable ambient temperature. For this they chose a wall mounted convector heater with thermostat and timer (hard wired via a switched spur). Overall this bespoke studio provides plenty of room for gym equipment and office area the family plan to install.
