This family wanted to create more living space; an all year round multi-purpose area, with integral storage, which they could all enjoy and which, being in the garden, would have a different feel from the rest of the house. They wished to utilise garden space currently taken up with a summer house and shed.
Our SIPs (structured insulated panels) studios are incredibly robust, built with precision using high quality materials and commanding exceptional thermal efficiency that exceeds building regulation requirement. The MacFarlanes saw (and touched) our product at the Grand Designs show and as a result chose Garden Spaces to build their family studio.


As with every build, we carried out a site survey and discussed with our client their functional requirements and vision. Our designer forwarded 3D images for their perusal and adjustment if desired, after which, the build process swiftly followed. Depending on their size and complexity, our studios take on average two to three weeks to construct with minimal disruption and mess. It was requested that this studio be positioned close to a sizeable tree, which was possible (as the images show) with limited tree root damage, due to our concrete pile foundations and the expertise of the build team. The 4.8m2 integral storage area sits to the rear left side, accessible through an external door that is seamlessly clad and accessible using a key, making it very hard to spot! This cladding is our popular western red cedar: a hardy kiln dried FSC wood with a fine even grain and attractive golden colours. The glazed corner formed by the two sets of large sliding doors ensures double aspect views of the garden. These frames are powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey (RAL 7016) with A -rated argon filled toughened glass panels. To complete this new family space, our electrician installed seven external and twelve internal LED down lights and seven double power sockets.
