Summary

Our studios are constructed using SIPs (structured insulated panels) which enable fast flexible building and give superb rigidity, longevity and most importantly outstanding thermal performance. It is however, an interesting twist, when we install a studio for a SIPs engineer who will no doubt have a discerning eye for precision and quality! Our client's concept was to create a self-contained office, complete with a shower room and WC that could therefore also be used for occasional overnight guests.

Details

Normally our garden studios sit on concrete pile foundations but here there was an existing concrete slab on the site, that was suitable as a foundation (though we had to build it up one end to account for a slight slope in the ground). Rubber jack pads were laid on the concrete and the base of our structure laid upon these. As the studio included a toilet and shower requiring water and waste drainage, Building Control inspections took place at appropriate stages and a sign off certificate issued. Notable features of this spacious office include large expanses of glazing, all frames being powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey (RAL 7016). The glass is high performance; Argon gas filled, heat reflective, thermal insulating, UV protective & easy clean. The vertical blinds afford privacy and subtle control of the light, which can be important when working at a computer on bright days. Our electrician tapped power from the main house using 10mm 3 core armoured cable and installed twelve internal and four external LED downlights (housed in the overhang above the front step) with light symphony giving remote control from the house. In addition he installed six double power sockets, an external socket, a wall mounted blower heater in the bathroom and underfloor heating in the main office area, with the ProTouchâ„¢ iQ Hub system. To finish this stylish yet functional office our client chose timeless engineered oak flooring. Overall a substantial contemporary garden studio that we hope serves the White family well over many years.
