We would strongly recommend anyone considering a garden room to appoint Garden Spaces. They have a perfect balance of excellence, flexibility, responsiveness, speed and value for money.

Summary

There's nothing more satisfying than making the very best of the space we have in our homes and gardens. Paradoxically installing a Garden Spaces studio can alter your perspective making your garden feel bigger, not least because we can build tight to boundaries, maximising those less used areas, commonly over run with vegetation. Our client wished to create a spacious multi-functional garden studio with shower and WC plus integral secure storage, across the bottom of their garden. The area was essentially pentagonal, fenced on both sides with a path beyond. It was important that we encompassed as much available space as possible and that the building blended with the remaining garden.

Details

Our designer and client, in close collaboration and after a number of iterations, came up with this spectacular studio. There are two fundamental features key to this build. Firstly, the studio shape cleverly mirrors the skewed pentagon shape that is this garden and secondly that, with the old fence removed, the robust sides of the new studio became the garden (and path) boundary, with access retained via an integral door. Prior to commencement of building, we carried out a week of ground work involving removal of vegetation and the existing rear fence, leveling the ground and digging the drainage. We used a local contractor to build the two walls and he matched the brick to their existing wall perfectly. These walls support part of the overhanging roof which extends across the entire front, widening on both sides to create two useful covered area (the sort we all crave during those BBQ downpours and perfect for storing logs or propping up your bicycle). One covered area leads to an integral storage room, sealed with high security steel doors. The other covered area provides more useful storage and leads to the high security door that opens onto the rear path. The main internal room is a spacious and triangular in shape and can fully open onto the garden by means of the aluminium powder coated bi-folding doors. These are fitted with integral blinds contained within the double glazed argon filled unit and operated by a magnetic mechanism. A compact shower room sits to the rear of this room making this studio truly multi-functional. In addition to the natural light flooding in, 18 external and 24 internal Aurora LED down lighters were installed. Our electrician also installed a Hitachi Shirokuma A+ energy efficient inverter (climate control unit) and high speed Wi-Fi via an Ethernet Cat 5 cable. The finishing touches included the beautiful yet robust engineered oak flooring, brushed steel power sockets and the artificial grass roof. Overall a thermally efficient, low maintenance, highly secure and quirky building that makes great use of the space and will, we hope, provide much enjoyment for many years.
