Summary

Many London properties, particularly terraced, offer limited scope for extension yet the majority have relatively long gardens that lend themselves to the installation of a studio. This terraced property was no exception and so our clients decided to create additional all year round living space by installing a stand-alone garden room. It was designed primarily as a music room but with its ensuite toilet, it is also ideal for overnight guests, home working or simply relaxing.

Details

This music room incorporated some bronze acoustic elements to enhance the acoustic insulation. As the images reflect, this studio was expertly installed close to the boundaries to maximise use of space. The only access was through the house. One may assume this bodes disaster in regard to a building project but speed and method of construction and the experience of our build teams ensures this is more than feasible. All of their equipment and the materials are carefully carried through the property with sheeting laid to protect all surfaces. Occasionally it may be necessary to remove and later reinstall the clients' or a neighbours fencing.
A striking feature of this studio is the colour. The cladding is kiln dried thermowood that has been painted with a premium black stain. To compliment this the toilet window and powder coated aluminium frames of the Bi-folding doors are also black, with the non-slip composite deck step in anthracite grey. The ensuite, situated to the rear of the studio behind the storage area, has compact furniture with an off-the-floor, back-to-the-wall toilet with an eco-friendly dual flush hidden cistern. The final noteworthy feature is the handy storage area to replace the garden shed, with a cleverly clad secret external door, that doesn't detract from the front façade.
