I would like to make comment of the work that Steve and Ian did, they worked tremendously hard, were very easy to deal with and did a fantastic job. Eiri and I would like to put on record our thanks to them both for a great job.

Summary

Our client wished to create additional space by building a multi-functional studio using some garden capacity. It was ostensibly, to be a place of retreat and relaxation for the family and where he could play music without disturbing the neighbours! Of course once built robust highly thermally efficient building could be used for any purpose, winter and summer, for decades to come.

Details

This studio demonstrates the bespoke nature of our designs, in so much as our client could hand pick the mix of features they desire. Normally we would advise minimal glazing for a music or sound studio as glass is the weaker point, acoustically, of the building. However many want to retain the 'garden studio' look and its multi-functionality whist achieving a degree of acoustic performance, as was the case here. This design therefore incorporates a double layer of 12.5mm acoustic plaster board on the walls and ceiling and 'impactalay' on the floor beneath the 10mm v groove oak-effect laminate. The window frames and French doors are all powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey, the glass being toughened, argon filled and A-rated. Our electrician installed 8 internal and 6 external down lighters with 'light symphony' giving remote control from the house, an external weatherproof power socket and Wi-Fi broadband via power cable. The external finish is our popular western red cedar cladding, a knot-free fine grained FSC wood which silvers over time or can be oiled annually to retain the lovely golden hues. We hope the Kenyon family enjoy many relaxing hours in their versatile garden space.
