Summary

A very popular use for our studios is for the creation of a personal garden gym. Lives are busy and the convenience of having your own gym is unquestionable. This client wanted to build a gym room that not only blended seamlessly with their existing buildings but fitted into a very snug spot, along the side of the boundary fence and tucked under the overhang of the garage roof. They also required a small sink in one corner of the room.

Details

The majority of gyms we build require additional head room to accommodate use of the equipment. In order to achieve this we have to dig down and countersink the studio floor to avoid exceeding a total external height of 2.5m (if planning consent is to be avoided). Digging down was particularly important for this studio to ensure it fitted below the garage overhang. Despite its position between a fence and garage, the design of this studio gym ensured plenty of natural light and a feeling of space due to the bi fold glazing and fixed side panels across the garden end. In addition a top opening window on one side wall was installed to give a gentle through draught when working out in the warmer months. The external finish is our organic polymer render, available in a spectrum of colours, in this case white to match the garage. The finished roof surface was also carefully chosen to match the pebbly surface of the garage roof so that, when looking out from rooms above, the two buildings blended. The frames are all powder coated aluminium, again available in many colours (RAL coded), for this build chosen in black. Six internal and five external down lighters were installed, 4 double power sockets and a Hitachi Shirokuma A+ energy efficient air con unit. The floor was laid with 10mm V-groove laminate; an easy to clean and exceptionally robust flooring, ideal for the heavy equipment and use likely of a gym.
