Summary

Our customer on this build was a professional photographer and wanted to build a bespoke photography studio in their garden enabling them to work from home and save money on hiring or renting other studio space.
The studio would have to be large enough to accomodate group photographs, and have limited glazing so light could be easily controlled from within.
Due to the long and thin nature of the garden the studio would also have to fit in without taking too much space, but still have a large enough internal space to meet the customer's requirements.
A large oak tree was in the garden and the design would have to take this and the tree roots into account.
As the studio was to be used year round, climate control may be required to maintain a comfortable working environment both in summer and winter months.
To maximise the space, the customer wanted a decking area outside the studio creating an additional space from which to work on dry, sunny days.

Details

We created a useable and practical studio for the customer which fit their garden shape perfectly. The decking area works well with the studio and the limited glazing supports the control of light within the studio. To assist with this the customer ordered aluminium Venetian blinds to gain complete control of lighting in their studio and create perfect conditions for photography.
An ultra quiet air conditioning unit was installed meaning the studio could be kept at a comfortable temperature all year round even on hot summer days.
The oak tree and roots did not affect the building of the studio and were left in place.
