Summary

As the photographs reveal, this gentlemen wished to build a gym at the bottom of the garden making best use of the space available. The gym equipment he planned to install takes up a considerable amount of floor space and maximising the internal area was a priority. Our SIPs (structured insulated panels) studios are exceptionally thermally efficient, can be built without planning permission (with height restrictions) and so make brilliant garden gyms that can be heated efficiently when required. Moreover, once in place, this substantial additional room adds value to your property and over time its function can be adapted, for example to create home office space, depending on requirement.

Details

From our thorough site survey and discussions with the client we established exactly what our client wanted and that garden backed onto a school. In order to create the widest studio space allowed we needed to build right up to the boundary. This meant, for building regulation purposes that those sides of the studio abutting the boundary had to be finished with cement particle board (a significantly non-combustible material). This is not unsightly as we paint it in a high quality weatherproof paint that is RAL colour coded to match the powder coated aluminium frames of the glazing and bifolds. In order to construct so close to the boundary, building had to take place during school holidays in order that we could temporarily remove sections of fence. We liaised closely with the school on this matter. Many of our designs incorporate a recessed step with overhang. In effect this creates shallow very useful alcoves within the building. For this design however, with internal floor space being at a premium, the fabulous six paneled bank of bifolds were not recessed. Weather permitting these concertina outwards onto the expanse of non-slip composite, increasing that internal floor area considerably whilst creating open air exercise space or maybe somewhere to sit for a well-earned rest! As with the majority of our gyms the 10mm laminate v groove floor covering was chosen for practicality and robustness (it comes with a 25 years residential warranty). Its comes in an array of styles, is professionally laid and that looks great. Ten internal 'Aurora' LED down lighters and 6 double power sockets plus a convector heater ensure a fully functional gym day or night, winter or summer.
