I wanted to let you know what a good job Costi & his team have done for us over the last few weeks - we're really happy with the result and are really looking forward to getting it kitted out as our perfect games room.
Costi and his team were brilliant - they seem to work very hard and very efficiently, were polite and helpful at all times and left the site completely tidy every night. Costi was really helpful in guiding us to a really sensible solution for storing our table tennis topper and also in advising us as to how our home cinema set-up should work. I also appreciated that he gave us warning in advance of when we needed to make decisions - always helpful on a project like this. Additionally I appreciate his attention to detail - very reassuring. I'd happily recommend him, and his team, to anyone else.

Summary

The catalyst for designing and installing a Garden Spaces studio has proven to be varied; a change to working from home, the desire to start or expand a business, the drive to get fit, falling in love with our studios at the Grand Designs show or simply needing more space for a growing family. For this client it was a holiday, during which the children had access to a full sized pool table and had such fun that they decided it would be a fabulous addition at home. They just needed to create the space to house a full sized slate topped pool table and it is from here that their bespoke studio evolved.

Details

As these images show, the studio was built into a slight bank on one side ensuring best use of space whilst retaining maximum head height, without requiring planning. (The external height of the studio must not exceed 2.5m, this being measured from the highest point of ground adjacent to the building.) Certain design aspects of this studio were predicated on the pool table's weight and size. The floor directly beneath the table was reinforced with a concrete slab. The rest of the floor was constructed off site from SIPs (structured insulated panels), with an aperture for the concrete slab. The SIPs floor was positioned on concrete pile foundations, topped with rubber jack pads. The finished floor choice was engineered oak with underfloor heating everywhere except under the pool table. All our studios are of SIPs construction affording great thermal values, longevity and 'clean' fast construction. Internally, our electrician installed downlights, power sockets and the touch screen thermostatic controls for the underfloor heating, plus the wiring for a projector which our clients then installed themselves. One final internal addition was a cunning 'pocket' along one wall behind which the table-tennis table could be stored when not in use. Externally the studio is clad in kiln dried FSC Cedar and the roof sealed with a joint-free EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) sheet, produced by Firestone which they back with a 20-year warranty. Overall a high quality, contemporary, bespoke garden games room that we hope provides years of relaxation!
