Summary

We all look forward to those dry relatively warm days when we can enjoy our garden and the children can play out there. Unfortunately in this wonderful country it rains, quite a lot! It is a fabulous concept to be able to utilise the garden all year round regardless of weather. Creating a 'family room' at the bottom of the garden, surrounded by the trees and greenery, in which the children, the adults or both can escape to, relax in, socialise or play, is something to be desired. This family wanted just that and had a plot at the top of the garden crying out to be better utilised.

Details

As the photographs show, this Helix studio was situated at the top of relatively steep garden. Our clients cleared the area ready for us to prepare the ground and create a level platform on which to build the studio. We take enormous care with every aspect of our construction, not only using the very best quality products but affording great attention to detail, to create a product that is not only long lasting and functional but aesthetic and contemporary in style. Kiln dried cladding, decking perfectly flush with the threshold, capped edges and secret fixings are some of the many ways we achieve this. With this studio there is a noticeable drop of at the front of this building. To maintain symmetry and clean lines, a shadow board (painted with matching RAL coded weatherproof paint) was installed below, with the cladding cut uniformly across the front drawing the eye away from the uneven ground levels and up to the stunning elegance of our design. Our client chose our anthracite grey (RAL 7016) powder coated aluminium bifold doors across the front which when fully opened sit neatly within the metre deep recess created by the roof overhang and decking. This recess wraps around the glazed corner of the building, a beautiful feature appearing on many of our designs. Housed in the overhanging roof are 5 external down lighters and the non-slip decking below (again RAL 7016 to match the anthracite grey frames) is made of composite material: 65% thermowood, 35% plastic. Internally additional natural light floods in from the high rear window. This window will also act to draw a pleasant breeze through the room in the summer months. In addition a climate control Fujitsu inverter was chosen as an optional extra, as well as our maintenance free integral blinds (both can be seen on the photographs).
We trust the family will enjoy this fabulous family room for many decades. Its role will no doubt evolve as the family grow and it will enable them to enjoy their garden even through the wettest coldest winter months.
