Summary

We were approached by the Arthurs who wanted to make better use of an area of garden that was lovely but under-utilised. The concept was for a games / TV room and for some garden storage. Much of the garden had been carefully landscaped and so it was important to safe guard that during construction and create a studio that blended into the space available.

Details

A green house and old shed were removed prior to our arrival and we then broke up and removed the remaining concrete slab which was inappropriate as a base for the new studio. Our designer and the Arthurs came up with a great looking building that made best use of the space available and includes integral storage and a sizeable decked area. The main games room has a completely glazed corner formed by two sets of bi-folding doors, which, when swept back, give a fabulous expanse of indoor outdoor space. As the images show, the internal flooring was carefully chosen and installed to blend seamlessly with the anthracite grey non-slip composite decking. A deep overhang above the bi-fold doors afford some shelter across the threshold and houses LED down-lights, giving a striking effect at night. The storage room sits to the rear of the decked area and is accessible through an external door, clad in cedar to blend with the rest of the studio. Our cedar has been carefully selected. It is FSC certified, kiln dried with fine grain, secretly fixed with stainless steel pins. It will last for decades maintenance free or can be oiled annually to retain the golden colours. Internally six double power sockets and twelve LED down-lights were installed plus one external weatherproof socket. We hope the family gain great enjoyment from their new studio that sits beautifully within their garden.
