This family wished to build a new extension to replace their old-style conservatory which was proving unbearably cold during the winter months, making it frustratingly unusable. Our buildings are exceptionally thermally efficient, being constructed from highly insulated SIPs panels and high-quality double glazing. The result is a fabulous cozy yet spacious new room that can be used throughout the year, with minimal energy input.
External finish: Kiln dried FSC Western red cedar with secret fixings. It can be oiled annually to maintain the warmer tones.
Sedum roof: As well as looking fantastic especially from the upper rooms of the house, a living sedum roof harnesses many other benefits:
- Wildlife: Sedum roofs create a great habitat for mini beasts and provide food for butterflies, bees and seed-eating birds. The spent flower stalks supply nesting material for birds.
- Added insulation: Research has found that living roofs stabilise and moderate the temperature of the studio below, both winter and summer.
- Rainwater management: A green roof absorbs up to 75% of rainfall and releases it slowly, reducing pressure on drainage systems. A green roof also filters pollutants from rain water.
- Noise reduction: A sedum roof significantly reduce noise inside a building; ideal if you want peace and quiet in your garden studio.
- Improved air quality and wellbeing: CO2 is absorbed, while dust and pollutants are filtered out.
Bespoke glazing: French doors framed by high fixed windows with trickle vents.
Laminate flooring: An aesthetic flooring that is welcoming yet practical. It has bevelled edges and wide planks and comes with a 25-year manufacturer's warranty.
Certificated electrics: 6 internal dimmable LED down-lights and 4 double power sockets.
