I was very impressed with the standard of work, the coordination of delivery of items in a timely fashion and the sheer hard work of John and Deffa. Incidentally, John was a most considerate and helpful workman and definitely multi-skilled. I now have a lovely, light space in which to paint. I know I shall be very happy spending a lot of time here. I am loath to start moving my stuff in and cluttering the pristine space!! So, many thanks to the whole team for delivering my much longed for studio

Summary

Our bespoke builds create a perfect space for many activities (not least relaxing). An art studio is no exception, requiring the perfect ambient temperatures needed to work in a static position for many hours whilst benefitting from design that maximises natural light, functionality and spaciousness. Our client wished to build an art studio over the site of an existing garage, that was simple in design but included a sink and a bespoke cupboard, sized specifically for storing canvases.

Details

The existing garage was removed the remaining concrete slab tested and found to be a suitable as a base for our building. If existing concrete foundations are not strong enough they can be reinforced with additional footings. 40mm Jack pads sit between the foundations and the base of our studios and in order to build closer than 2m to the boundary without planning, the overall height for all building must not exceed 2.5m. This studio was one of our standard Helix designs with the step up and overhang running across the front. This step area is constructed using our maintenance free non slip composite (65% thermowood, 35% plastic) decking. The overhang, which houses 4 external down lighters (high quality 'Aurora' LED), cuts the glare of summer sun, shelters the entrance from rain and creates quite a feature when lit at night. The frames of the French doors, fixed glazed panels and side window are uPVC in our popular stylish anthracite grey, all with toughened argon filled A-rated glazing as standard. Our client chose to upgrade from our kiln dried thermowood to western red cedar cladding. As the photos show, it boasts a beautifully smooth knot free grain and warm golden colours that can be oiled annually or left to silver. Either way, the cladding, with its stainless steel secret fixings, will last many decades maintenance free. The finishing touch to this garden studio will hopefully be the art work that it facilitates the creation of.
