I am very pleased with my new garden studio and I can't wait to start using it. You filled my brief perfectly and I now have a new space to work in what was previously a very unused and wasted space.

I was very impressed by the level of customer service, efficiency and the workmanship of everyone that I dealt with at Garden Spaces. They made the whole process very simple and easy for me.

Summary

Our client, an inspirational artist, decided to make better use of his deceptively spacious but somewhat overgrown garden. He wished to create a warm peaceful retreat where he could read and relax. His design criteria included making the very best use of the end of the garden, which involved a degree of excavation and for the studio to be light and spacious with easy wheel chair access.

Details

As with so many of our London builds, the only access we had to the garden, was through the house. Our build teams are expert at carefully hand-balling materials through houses without damage or mess. This design fell within permissible development so planning consent was not required however permits for parking and a skip were, which we arranged. As the images reflect, the garden required a degree of landscaping before building work could commence. We cleared the foliage and excavated where necessary, installing sleepers as retaining wall to the side and rear. The studio was a classic design, making best use of the width of the garden and enhanced with the inclusion of a sedum living roof. (Further details on our 'living' roofs can be found on the website under Extras). The front façade, looking back across the garden, is glazed with a three panel bifolds plus a single opening door. This door was fitted with a specialist electronic hinge and lock operated from a key fob, allowing our client to open the door as he approaches. Internally he chose engineered oak flooring and strip lighting with daylight bulbs. The ramp and decked area are covered with non-slip composite decking (RAL colour matched with the window and door frames), with an overhang above housing four LED downlights creating attractive lighting in the evening. Overall, an inviting space, which we hope facilitates many peaceful hours of relaxation.
