Summary

Creating more space affordably and with minimal compromise to our existing living space, is a common challenge. Many people turn to us for their solution, as most people's gardens offer a plot of land that can be utilised with relative impunity. Moreover the impact on our lives is also minimal because, in general, our studios do not require planning and all are of SIPs (structured insulated panels) construction ensuring a clean and fast construction process, with a high quality and enduring finish.

Details

As the images show, this garden studio was built to the side of the main property with the main façade looking onto the patio and garden. The SIPs that form the sides, ceiling and floor are incredibly rigid and highly thermally efficient having no cold bridging points. They sit on concrete pile foundations capped with rubber jackpads. Pile foundations impose minimal impact to tree and shrub root systems meaning we can construct very close to existing garden features. The whole studio structure is further insulated with a waterproof membrane, battens and secretly fixed solid wood cladding, in this instance kiln dried western red cedar. Our FSC cedar is exceptionally durable, with knot free fine grain and warm tones. It can be oiled annually or left to silver but either way it is essentially maintenance free and will last a life time. The roof finish is equally robust, covered by a join free continuous sheet of EPDM rubber (guaranteed for 20 years) and finished with an aluminium trim that is RAL coded to match the bifold frames. The A rated argon filled double glazing of the bifolds further bolsters the studio's thermal efficiency ensuring this stand-alone building requires minimal energy input all year round. Overall a functional, comfortable and highly versatile studio we hope will be enjoyed for many years.
