Summary

Our client wished to replace his existing garden shed with a gym that could be used winter and summer. The studio needed to provide enough internal space to house a running machine, cross trainer and some free weights but not be so large that it encroached on the garden. Our gastropod range are constructed in the same way as our Helix and Elegan studios, using SIPs (structure insulated panels) so offer the same outstanding thermal efficiency, high quality and fabulous finish. Details

As the photographs reflect, the ground on which this studio sits, sloped sharply to the fence line. Our team of experts built up the ground level and dug sufficient concrete pile foundations provided a sturdy level platform on which to sit the studio. As mentioned, the gastropod is constructed using SIPs which form the sides, ceiling and floor. These panels are incredibly rigid, formed from best quality 11mm OSB (oriented strand board) between which is an insulating layer of expanded polyurethane foam. We screw our panels together with long high tensile, self-tapping screws and also use expanding adhesive foam to ensure 100% air tightness. The result is a highly thermally efficient box that has no cold bridging points. The whole structure is further insulated with a waterproof membrane, battens and secretly fixed solid wood cladding, in this instance, our kiln dried thermowood. The window and sliding door are A-rated double glazed with toughened glass, the frames' colour being our most popular 'anthracite grey'. Internally the studio is fully plastered and finished with skirting board. The flooring is our exceptionally durable yet aesthetic v-groove laminate (guaranteed for 25 year), absolutely ideal for a gym. There are two double power sockets and a convector heater to boost the temperature for those frosty winter work outs. This was a swift process from start to finish with minimal disruption to our client and no planning required.
