Summary

When you live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, you want to be able to make the most of it. Fantastic views and panoramas from you bedroom, kitchen or living room window are a huge blessing to have in any house and our client wanted a garden room which would be able to make the most of the stunning view they had from their property.
They had an existing concrete slab which could be used as the foundations for their studio, though they weren't sure of it's quality all the way through so we would need to consider this when building the studio. Ordinarily we use pile foundations, a grid of concrete cubes dug into the ground but when possible we do used existing materials.
Our client wanted large windows to take in the views over the countryside and a large decking area where they could relax and entertain friends and family on warm summer days.

Details

When our builders arrived on site they first thing they did was to inspect the quality of the existing concrete foundations in the garden. This was deemed suitable for the studio though a little repair work was needed on the concrete to get it up to our specification and standards. Once this was done building went ahead with ease.
The huge windows on 3 sides of the studio allow for exhilirating views in all directions, overlooking the Cumbria countryside. The windows and doors were all bespoke for this build with upgraded, toughened glass in each. This allows for a greater span in glass without compromising the integrity of the building. The doors on this building slide open allowing for inside and outside to blend together. On warm summer days the studio can be opened up to make the most of warm weather and allows easy movement between the decking and the inside of the studio.
The pathway down to the studio sets you up for the views and an equally stunning studio. As you descend the steps down onto the decking area it is only then you appreciated the scale of the views and how well the studio sits within this.
Due to the studios location, it is almost invisible from the house. The living sedum roof blends with the plants already in the garden so this doesn't spoil the views from the main dwelling. The hardwood decking provides a perfect place to sit and read a book, entertain guests or just relax and look out over the hills and valleys.
This studio is of our Elegans range and is finished with Western Red Cedar cladding on all sides, powdercoated aluminium framed windows and doors, engineered wooden flooring, down lighters and colour coded roof trim.
Internally there is a small convector heater which is all that is needed to keep a building this size warm in winter. We imagine this would be a fantastic place to sit when the countryside is covered in snow in winter, picture postcard moments.
One of the nicest studios we think we've ever done.
