Summary

Our client wanted to utilise space in his garden to build a studio gym. People have increasingly busy lives and many work part if not all of their working week from home. There too is a growing appreciation of the importance of health and wellbeing. Having a home gym is arguably an investment in both. It affords the flexibility to 'workout' at any point in ones day without the time-consuming travel or subscriptions fees of a local gym. Moreover, though this studio has started life as a gym, its use, like any other room in the house, can be changed if required.

Details

There is a raised bank down one side of this garden and so to make best use of space, it was necessary to excavate into the bank, building retaining walls with sleepers. The studio slotted into this bank which allowed additional head height internally for gym equipment. Each of the three panel bifolds were 1000mm wide and 2250mm high, giving great light and views across the garden. An additional top opening high window was included on the right side wall to create yet more light and enable through draughts on hot summer days. The studio is clad in western red cedar, a stunning very hardy FSC wood that is grown in cool climates ensuring fine even grain. It is kiln dried and secretly fixed in place with stainless steel pins. We also crafted a stylish cover for the consumer unit in the same cedar wood. Other bespoke features included white rubber floor tiles, four internal and a weather resistant external double power sockets, twelve LED downlights and a wall mounted Convector heater with thermostat and timer. Our certified electrician connects the power via 10mm three core armoured cabled, tapped off the mother board of the main house. In addition he installed wireless broadband to the studio via power cable. Overall an attractive spacious and functional gym that blends with the garden.
