Summary

Children have a habit of growing, especially boys! Suddenly, it feels, they are young adults craving their own space in which to hang out with their friends, watch movies and be teenagers. Garden space can be put to great use and often, with the removal of a small shed or the cutting back of a few shrubs, a garden studio can be installed without diminishing the garden. Paradoxically, many people comment on how their garden studio, especially when at the end of a garden creates the perception of more space. This client wanted to build a room in the garden primarily for her teenage son. She visited our stand at the Grand Designs Show and was encouraged by the quality our materials and construction.

Details

We carried out a site survey and together with our client, came up with a design that ticked many boxes. A shed was removed to clear a suitable site for the studio and to replace this, we incorporated a large storage area within the design. The beauty of integral storage is that, not only are contents perfectly dry and relatively warm all year round, but that they are arguably far more secure than in any standard garden shed. We can, on request, incorporate steel doors or heavy duty locks if it is deemed necessary but all our doors have high security 5 point locking as standard. A notable feature of this design is the large decked area to the front, designed for relaxing and entertaining on, as well as a decked walkway wrapping round the entire building, in our popular non-slip composite decking (60% FSC thermowood / 40% PVC) in graphite grey. Other features include the wide sliding doors, constructed with commercial grade glazing to allow the 1.5m expanse (3m wide in total) and their integral blinds. Internally the flooring is our robust yet attractive 10mm v groove laminate (which comes with a 25 year warranty), 6 Aurora down lighters, 4 double powers sockets, a wall hung convector heater and wireless broadband via power cable. Hopefully this will provide the perfect chill out zone for all the family.
