Summary

As our children grow in number or simply size, finding one's own space in the family house, to relax, watch TV or listen to music can become more difficult. Having an additional, spacious room in your garden is a solution many are turning to as it is often far cheaper and definitely faster than house extensions or loft conversions. Our bespoke buildings are robust and highly thermally efficient so provide fabulous space all year round with minimal additional energy costs. For this build our clients wished to utilise the footprint of their existing garden shed and were keen to position the studio as close to the boundary hedge as possible. Their studio was to include integral storage to make up for the loss of garden shed.

Details

Our designer met with the Sellars on site to assess the area and discuss their vision and functional aspirations, to enable him to create their perfect garden studio. As the images reflect, the design included a substantial storage room with an external 'hidden' door, carefully clad to blend with the rest of the façade. The cladding is our durable Western Red Cedar; an FSC wood with fine even grain and warm golden colouring. It will silver over time or can be oiled annually but is otherwise maintenance free. The glazing across the front is a 3 + 1 configuration consisting of a single opening door for easy day to day access plus and 3 concertina (bi-fold) panels. The entire aperture of the main room can therefore open up creating that much desired outdoor indoor feel. The frames are powder coated aluminium that glide open with a weightless smoothness and come with a 20 year warranty. Our certified electrician connected studio power from the motherboard of the house, fitting five external and nine internal aurora LED down lights with a strip light in the storage room. In addition he installed four internal and one external double power socket, Wi-Fi with cable connection, a convector heater and an external PIR light. Overall, an aesthetic yet functional addition to the garden which we hope the family enjoy for many years.
