Summary

Our client had recently moved. Having taught art previously he felt it would be wonderful to create a bright airy garden studio from which he could run local art classes and in his own time relax, himself. Many of us love being in our gardens and find it therapeutic and relaxing all be it rather weather dependent. Have a garden studio can take you into the midst of your garden regardless of the weather. And though this may not help with the weeding, it is a step away from the house work!

Details

Our designer met with Mr Wood on site and together they discussed where the studio should go, its size and design. Many clients are surprised at how their newly installed studios make their gardens feel bigger, by drawing their eye and by siting them tight to the boundary, often in otherwise underutilised over grown corners. The ground where this studio was to be slotted was sloping. We tend to do one of two things in this situation; either level the ground and install a retaining wall or raise one end of the studio by increasing the height of the concrete pile foundations on which the studio sits. The latter solution was employed for this build and steps built to up to the raised entrance. The studio was split into two sections: a sizeable storage room (approx. 2.5m by 3m) to replace the shed that was removed, accessed via a separate external door, clad to blend with the rest of the thermowood façade. The main area (2.5m by 4.5m) represented Mr Woods art studio. It is bathed in natural light courtesy of its' glazed front, made up of the French doors and three glazed panels. Additional lighting is provided by eight internal and five external LED downlights with a strip light in the store area. The 10mm v groove laminate flooring is perfect for an art studio; soft under foot, exceptionally robust and easy to clean. We hope many creative and inspiring hours are enjoyed in this lovely garden space.
