Summary

This compact helix studio gym sits beautifully within the garden, not dominating it yet providing an additional room for our clients' hassle free work outs. All our studio, regardless of model or function, are built to the same high standards, with exceptional attention to detail and thermal efficiency and can of course serve a different role if requirements change, whether that be an office, an art studio, a kids play room or simply a great selling point. As with the majority of our studio gyms, additional head height is a requirement and this build was no exception.

Details

There was an existing shed, trees and shrubbery on the site ear marked for the Tivnanns' gym. They chose to clear the area themselves prior to our arrival on site however we are happy to include this in the overall project, if requested. In order to build within permissible development rules, a flat roofed building must not exceed 2.5m in external height (measured from the highest point at ground level). Many gym pieces such as cross trainers and running machines sit some distance off the floor and so in order to exercise without bumping your head or feeling claustrophobic you need some additional head height. To that end, as was the case for this studio, we excavated down by 150mm in order to counter sink the floor of the gym. Our clients chose our Western Red Cedar kiln dried cladding for the front and sides and for the of the building, not visible from any angle, cement particle board painted with our quality RAL colour coded weather proof paint. Almost the entire front is glazed giving plenty of natural light, views over the garden, plus a sense of spaciousness to the studio. It's impossible to tell from the images but the frames are actually uPVC (not powder coated aluminium), looking very sleek in anthracite grey with A-rated argon filled toughened double glazing throughout. Flooring is important in gyms. It has to absorb impact, create minimal noise and with stand heavy equipment being dragged across it or weights being dropped. We offer many flooring solutions but for gyms our most popular finish is our 10mm v groove laminate or, as in this case our rubber tile system. Other features here included a non-slip composite decked step up, a wall mounted convector heater, 4 double power sockets, and 6 internal and 4 external down lights (high quality 'Aurora' LED).
