Summary

So many of our garden studios are installed for people who work from home. As such we have designed studios as offices, music rooms, beauty rooms, consultancy rooms but never before a studio for insects! Our client, an expert on very small insects and their preferred habitats when kept as pets, required a purpose built room in which to expertly house and package her mini beasts ready for shipment. Critically therefore our client needed a garden studio that she could confidently maintain at an appropriate ambient temperature, without extortionate energy bills adding to the running costs of the business. Other design considerations were; light, adequate space, safety and the capacity to keep an eye out for delivery vans and an eye on the budget.

Details

Thanks to the SIPs (structured insulated panels) construction bolstered by the A rated argon filled double glazing and our kiln dried thermowood cladding, our studios are exceptionally thermally efficient. As such they require minimal additional energy input even in the winter, an important business consideration for any small company. As mentioned, our client needed controllable ambient temperatures day and night, winter and summer and so chose our slim line, almost silent, Hitachi inverter. It is an A rated climate control unit that takes up minimal space yet is highly efficient and reliable. The floor to ceiling uPVC glazing across the front creates an airy spaciousness feel within, yet with integral blinds, the light and heat entering can again be finely tuned to suit the small inhabitants of the studio! The tiny window on the side wall allowed the client to keep a discreet eye on the drive way without losing wall space or privacy and the high opening window on the back wall enables a through draught on those airless summer days. Our client is likely to have her arms full when stepping in and out of the studio and so underfoot stability was vital. The best decking solution we offer in terms of non-slip properties is our composite decking (65% thermowood / 35% plastic). It is RAL colour coded to match the frames, highly durable and installed to run flush with the internal flooring, minimising any threshold trip hazards. Overall this studio is a neat bespoke work place solution, tailor made to offer features that are critical to the unique operations of this home run business.
