Thank you-very pleased with the execution and the outcome, please pass this thanks onto Chris who installed it, with the minimum of fuss. We are delighted with our new garden room- we have a small garden and we were able to create a bespoke design with Garden Spaces which suited us perfectly. The build was delivered on time and on budget.

Summary

Trying to build an extension or make alterations to a listed building can prove a real headache and many are turning to garden studios as an alternate means of creating additional all-year-round space. Our clients wished to build a home office and ideally, some integral storage. As a general rule our garden studios do not require planning permission but in this instance, with the main property being listed, planning permission was sought and approved subject to some minor design conditions.

Details

The garden area available wasn't huge and so it was important to design a studio that did not dominate, yet made maximal use of the space, providing integral storage as well as a spacious usable office. As the images show, the storage area was stepped back to allow for the car parking whilst the office was deeper with centralised French doors framed by fixed glazed panels on either side. The window frames were colour matched to the frames of the listed main property and the glass in the store area was frosted, as required by planning. Our studios boast outstanding 'u' values due to the SIPs (structured insulated panels) construction so require minimal additional energy input to achieve perfect temperatures throughout the year. We offer a number of solutions: wall mounted thermostatic convectors, climate control units or underfloor heating. The Holmes-Hendersons chose the latter, which comes with touch screen thermostatic control and is ideal for our studios. In addition they upgraded to LED down lights for the main office and the overhang across the entrance and had wireless broadband installed via power cable.
