Summary

Mr Jones was landscaping and developing his walled garden and as part of this project, wanted to replace an existing summer house with a building he could use all year round, ostensibly as his office. He wanted the ability to open the office right up so that, when weather permitted, he could enjoy the garden fully. In order to soften the views of the studio from upstairs windows and to attract as much wild life as possible to the garden, our client also chose to have a living sedum roof.

Details

The site for this bespoke office was not shaded, so perfect for a sedum roof. The sedum is delivered to us in prime condition and once installed requires little care apart from an annual (spring time) supplement with a low nitrogen granular feeder. To withstand the additional weight of the sedum when fully rain saturated we reinforce the roof structure. The office was designed with budget, functionality and aesthetics in mind. The recessed A-rated glazing creates useful alcoves within the building for shelves and storage and a high opening window on the rear wall creates additional air flow and light. The frames are powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey which matches the non-slip composite decking of the step. Six internal and four external LED down lighters were installed along with four double power sockets. The cladding is our popular western red cedar, an FSC wood with fine knot-free grain and deep golden hues. It is an exceptionally hardy wood that requires no maintenance however can be oiled annually to retain the deeper colour. We hope Mr Jones enjoys his new office retreat with its commanding views of the garden.
