Summary

It's an expensive business moving house so, many people commute when required and otherwise where feasible, work from home. As such, households are choosing to invest in a garden studio for use as a purpose built office, away from the hubbub of the house and family life. Both Mr and Mrs Baker work from home and having researched the market and seen first-hand the quality of our buildings at the Grand Designs Show, chose us to design and build their bespoke office. Our SIPs (structured insulated panels) construction methods, the quality of our materials and the care and expertise with which out experienced teams build your studio ensures you will be thrilled with your garden space.

Details

As the images show, the studio fitted neatly into the corner of their garden with little impact on the garden's usable space. The Bakers chose a cedar deck step as it is their intention to build out from this, creating a large decked area around the studio. It is worth remembering, not least because our buildings are exceptionally thermally efficient and built to last, that regardless of primary function (in this instance an office) our studios also give you an additional bedroom when overrun with visitors, a teenagers hang out or somewhere to simply relax, socialise and enjoy the garden from. We work with each client to ensure aesthetics, functional design and budget are met. This studio has uPVC double glazed French doors (in anthracite grey) with high security 5-point locking. The half window has key operated locks and was positioned to ensure adequate desk space below. The floor is oak effect 10mm v groove laminate (with a 25 year residential warranty) and the external cladding our most popular western red cedar. Clearly the longevity and enduring look of the external finish matters hugely. That is why we use this hard wearing kiln dried FSC cedar. It is slow grown in cool climates giving it an almost knot free fine grain. We secretly fix it in place with stainless steel pins that will not rust and the wood can be left to silver or oiled annually (a simple case of brushing the oil on). Finishing touches to this studio included six internal and two external LED down lights, three double power sockets and a wall mounted convector heater with thermostat and timer.
