Summary

The primary driver for and function of a vast number of our garden studio is office space. Many people work for others from home or run their own businesses and find this solution to be the most convenient and cost effective way to operate. Our client needed to retrieve much needed space in the house by moving his 'office' into the garden. Incorporating a large decking area was also a design consideration, for those working coffee breaks or weekend sun-downers.

Details

This was a simple and sleek design maximising desk space along three walls whilst maintaining fabulous views over the garden by incorporating two fixed glazed panels either side of French doors. Often bifold doors are impractical if the primary use for a studio is as an office. Incorporating French doors set within fixed glazed panels does not compromise on usable internal space but still ensures fabulous light, a feel of spaciousness and a beautiful looking building. As the photographs show, an expanse of non-slip composite decking (carefully installed so that it is flush with the threshold and internal flooring), extends across front, with an overhang above housing 4 external down-lighters. This area alters the perception of this studio from a purely functional work space into a multi purpose family asset.
We offer a number of upgrades to our standard Helix specification plus many optional extras, enabling a 'cherry picked' product that serves the clients unique requirements, taste and budget. For this build our client upgraded from our Thermowood cladding to the Western Red Cedar. This beautiful FSC wood is sourced from the cooler climate of Canada incurring slower growth which gives a more even grain with incredible rigidity and durability. All our cladding is kiln dried and laid ship-lap style with secret stainless steel fixings. The frames were also upgraded to powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey, to which the decking is colour matched. Internally our slim line Hitachi (Shirokuma) inverter unit quietly ensures perfect climate control with minimal energy input.
Overall a fabulously multi-functional office studio and decking area has been created for use winter and summer for many decades to come.
