Summary

Our home is one the most overt means of expressing our individual style. Our garden is an extension of this and so for many, placing an off the shelf modular building in your garden, will not appeal. Designing a studio that is unique, emulates your own house and / or style and fulfils a much needed function, has to be an attractive consideration. Our client had a love of 1950's American architecture and wished to reflect this in his garden studio. The key driver for this build, apart from making the very best use of available garden space, was to create a place in which to relax alongside a separate yet integral workshop.

Details

As with all our studios, this one was designed in close collaboration with our client. Planning was submitted for the inclusion of a shower and though this was refused by the authorities a stylish cloakroom was incorporated which included a toilet with hidden cistern and a square sink with vanity units, both serviced by a 3 way macerator. The exterior finish that creates this striking façade is a silicone based organic resin render. The colour (there is a broad spectrum from which to choose) is within the render, not painted on and so is lasting and maintenance free. Other advantages of our render, aside from the notable aesthetics, include high water repellence and flexibility, exceptional weather resistance and additional insulation properties. The glazing is all powder coated aluminium, again, available in an infinite range of internationally recognised colours (RAL coded), in this instance code 7016 'anthracite grey'. The expanse non-slip composite decking is a precise colour match also. It is expertly installed to ensure a fluid transition from deck to internal floor which is so important when the sliding sash doors are open, effectively doubling available floor space on which to relax or work, when our British weather permits. The internal flooring is high quality 10mm laminate in 'Coco Oak', enhancing the two tone scheme of the design. This is a highly durable floor finish that come as standard with all Helix studios with the added assurance of a 20 year residential warranty. Another striking feature of this bespoke build is roof overhang, running across the front and extending around both sides of the studio and houses 6 down-lighters. The workshop, accessed through the sliding sash doors, completes this functional yet uniquely stylish garden studio.
