Sussex and Surrey garden show to expand in 2013

Our Solution

A Sussex and Surrey garden show is set to expand into a big community project in 2013, reports midsussextimes.co.uk. 'Strictly Come Gardening' - Haywards Heath's gardening show - provides ideas for people in the local area who are looking to change their gardens. However, the event plans to be bigger and better next year, with a sensory garden, treasure hunt and painting competition all added to the event. The sensory garden will involve creating miniature displays in wheelbarrows to be judged as part of the competition. Residents will also be encouraged to plant wild flowers in these new garden spaces, which are being promoted and overseen by Age UK. The Gardening Treasure Hunt will be new for next year, as will a 'fun' gardening quiz and the Strictly painting competition. Secondary school children in the area will be asked to submit their ideas for creating sustainable gardens also - such as using recyclable material or inventing a self-watering garden. The 2013 event will see the return of the celebrity panel, which is chaired by BBC Radio Sussex and Surrey's gardening guru Jean Griffin. Griffin told theorchardsshopping.com that the event is aimed to give people garden inspiration, saying: "We aim to offer lots of ideas and answer the questions all our passionate gardeners have. Our experts have loads of knowledge and experience which they are happy to share." Next year's show is currently planned for April 27th.
