Connecting with nature can boost productivity

Our Solution

Having a connection with nature can help people to work more productively, it has been claimed. Kenneth Freeman, who is the technical director for indoor plant firm Ambius, has stated that working in or even having a good view of a nature-based environment can help people feel more at ease and therefore work harder. Discussing the benefits of being exposed to nature in a recent interview with BBC News, he said: "There has been a lot of peer reviewed research carried out. Having a connection with nature in the workplace is the key thing because it makes you feel innately more comfortable with your surroundings. "Even a good view onto a landscaped gardens will make you feel psychologically more at ease." The interview may encourage those working at home - or even workplaces based in a rural environment - to invest in a garden studio office. After all, Freeman also claimed that many interior landscaping projects "more than outweigh their costs." Onrec.com reports that the interview came shortly after Ambius revealed that one in five British workers remain indoors for the entirety of the working shift. The company urged workers to spend at least five minutes of their working day in a natural environment, as this is often all it takes to receive the mental benefits.
